CYB230 Network Security
This course will introduce students to the concepts of network security. This course uses CIS 195 as a
foundation. Students will learn to install and configure Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), firewalls, log managers, and network monitoring software. Students will become familiar with network security design best practices. This course includes 2 network security projects as the last two modules.
A semester is 16 weeks in length. These courses are 8 weeks in length. The first 8 weeks of the semester students will take CIS194, CIS195, and CYB190. CIS194 and CIS195 will meet 2 nights a week from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. CYB190 is an online course. The second 8 weeks of the semester students will take CYB210, CYB220, and CYB230. CYB210 is an online course. CYB220 and CYB230 meet 2 nights a week from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. CIS194, CIS195, CYB220, and CYB230 follow the hybrid model. Students are expected to complete the readings, other course material, and knowledge assessments outside of class time. The class time is dedicated to students performing a hands-on assessment each week.
